The German automaker BMW just recalled 200,000 cars in U.S. due to problems in the airbag system.  This recall only affects the 5 series and not the M5, 3 series sedan, and X3 SUV.  BMW and NHTSA have replicated the issue as in some cases the airbags are not deploying in accidents.  Also, BMW has recalled the Hitch Mounted Bike Carrier in X3 and X5…

Mercedes-Benz has just showed its new system that detects driver’s fatigue as more than 26% of all accidents are results of driving tired. This system keeps track of the driver’s movements and the steering wheel’s movement to determine whether the driver is alert enough to drive. As soon as you get into the car it will start monitoring your movements and will continue until you stop and leave the car. If the driver is too tired, this new system will show warnings to keep the driver alert of the road conditions. Also this system works directly with the othe system Mercedes launched that reads and follows street signs.

Volkswagen’s Jetta TDI is already eligible for a $1,300 tax credit courtesy of the Internal Revenue Service, thanks to its clean diesel engine. Now, the IRS has also extended this to certain Mercedes-Benz models. Previously the federal alternative-powertrain tax credit only applied to hybrid models, but the latest generation of diesel engines from VW and Mercedes have proved their mettle at competing with hybrids for fuel economy.

As previously reported HERE at Carsportals.com Mercedes and BMW are talking about some sort of partnership, while BMW recently announced a new partnership with Fiat, the car maker ongoing talks with arch-rival Mercedes-Benz are still well in progress and have reportedly turned to negotiations over procurement and purchasing agreements. Both German luxury marques are looking to reduce costs by combining their purchases for vehicle components that aren’t visible to consumers, such as automatic window motors, air-conditioning systems and entry-level engines.
