In its latest issue, Italian car magazine Quattroruote has an article on Alfa Romeo’s new mid-sized sedan that will replace the 159. According to Quattroruote’s sources, the 159’s successor will revive the famed Giulia nameplate as the Italian company is replacing its current system of numeric model names for more personal ones.

Only a few months ago legendary Italian design house Bertone was on the verge of bankruptcy and was reported to be an acquisition target for a number of firms in India and China. Then, in April, the design house gained a new management team headed by former Aprilia CEO Teresio Gaudio. Under the new structure, designed to protect the 1,300-strong workforce, Nuccio Bertone’s widow Lilly was able to retain her 49.5% stake while the rest of the company went into the control of the Italian courts.

If we are to believe Alfa Romeo’s product plan , the Italian automaker will introduce the replacement for the unsuccessful 166 dubbed the 169, sometime in 2009. But until then we can show you a few design proposals for the 169 that were created by the students of the Polytechnic School of Design (SPD) in Milan, Italy as part of the Car Design Master Course that was closely supervised by Fiat’s Centro Stile Alfa Romeo.

As previously reported HERE at www.CarsPortals.com Tata Motors and Fiat are already tied up over a number of projects including manufacturing low cost engines and the sharing of engineering teams, but the partnership could soon expand even further with Tata boss Ratan Tata considering using Fiat to sell its Nano minicar (pictured) outside of India. The Nano will only cost $2,500 to manufacture and is set to start production in October at a plant in Singur, India.

As Previously reported here at www.CarsPortals.com, BMW and Fiat have already announced their intentions to collaborate on a new small car platform that will underpin the next MINI, due in 2012 or 2013, along with the successor to the Fiat Grande Punto and Alfa Romeo MiTo. However, a new platform developed by Fiat and dubbed the C-Evo will be used as the basis for a larger MINI, due out in 2015.

Alfa Romeo will release a special version of its 8C Competizione supercar in 2010 to mark the 100th anniversary of the company’s founding in Milan, Italy. The new car will simply be called the 8C GTA and is expected to be unveiled on June 24, 2010.
