The new 2009 Acura RL sedan has won the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) Top Safety Pick award in the Institute latest round of testing. To qualify, a vehicle must earn the highest rating of ‘good’ in the institute front, side, and rear tests and be fitted with electronic stability control. The new RL improved significantly compared to the previous model, with the side impact test result going from acceptable to good and the rear test result improving from poor to good. The RL is also the fourth Acura and ninth model from Honda to earn the coveted safety rating.

All of the sudden BMW’s X6 makes sense to other carmakers like Acura who from the looks of these pictures taken in the California desert, is readying its own crossover-coupe hybrid. Other than these photos from Car Magazine, there’s not much information going around the Japanese automaker’s newest proposition that will rival large-crossovers like the BMW X6 and the Infiniti FX. However, we’ll try to find out more details on the yet unnamed Acura so stay tuned.

Before we reported HERE and HERE that Acura’s next NSX will be a V10 with around 500 hp, but now here at www.CarsPortals.com we are reporting that Acura’s replacement for the NSX is still more than two years away but a number of key details about the car have been revealed by an inside source at Honda. According to the insider, the styling of the new car will be very similar to the Advanced Sports Car Concept (pictured above) from last year’s Detroit Auto Show and its future price tag will be around the $160,000 mark.
