Tesla Hires Mazda’s Chief Designer

Posted by Admin  Published in American Cars, Ford, Japanese Cars, Mazda, Tesla

The man at the head of Mazda’s design studios in Irvine, CA, Franz von Holzhausen, has left the company to lead Tesla’s design unit. His first two challenges will include the ‘Model S’ sedan and an affordable sport compact EV, but after more than three years as the lead designer for Mazda’s highly regarded concept and production vehicles, he’s reportedly looking forward to the greater flexibility the smaller company will offer.

Mazda denies Mazda 6 Hybrid

Posted by Admin  Published in Ford, Japanese Cars, Mazda

Mazda people said, “Sure, the landscape has changed during the past six months, but a hybrid is just not something we’re planning on doing at the moment,” said Jay Amestoy, vice president of public and government affairs for Mazda North American Operations. “Our real-world MPG numbers will be strong, and we just think the fuel economy is pretty good the way it is.”

Mazda to Reveal Mazda3 in L.A. Autoshow

Posted by Admin  Published in Japanese Cars, Mazda

A report from British magazine Autocar citing company insiders in Japan supports that the all-new Mazda3 will make its world premiere in sedan form at the Los Angeles Motor Show in November, while the five-door hatchback 3 will be launched at the Bologna Show in Italy in December. This means the Mazda’s new sporty compact car should arrive in European and Japanese dealerships in the first quarter of 2009, with the U.S. and other international markets following shortly after.

Mazda to revealed new Kazamai concept ahead of MIAS

The Kazamai will feature flowing lines along its panel similar to the ‘Nagare’ to denote crosswinds and give on-lookers a sense of visual lightness. Mazda claims that the design has a high emotional appeal, thanks to its strange proportions and non-pedestrian design. The concept car features a five-point grille, bold wheel arches that can barely contain the 22-inch rims, and a low, sleek roof line, all of which add to this emotional appeal by making the car look as unrealistic as possible.

2010 Mazda RX7

Posted by Admin  Published in Japanese Cars, Mazda

RX7

Over a million times we’ve heard rumors about a successor to the iconic Mazda RX-7. And here we are once again with a new set of -virtually identical- renderings scanned from two different Japanese car magazines that state Mazda will reveal a fourth generation RX-7 Coupe in 2010. While the mags may have their sources, officially, Mazda has never said anything about a new RX-7. The only thing that Mazda has announced is that it will reveal a significantly revised version of its rotary engine with more power and improved economy in the early 2010s. Now, if that engine will be used on a new model like the RX-7 is something to be seen.
